Birth Story Listening, Part II

6-Week Distance Course

August 10, 17, 24, 31, September 7, 14, 2018

10:30 am–11:45 am PST

Nikki Shaheed as primary Facilitator w/Pam England

When an unexpected event occurs any time during the childbearing year that "cracks" the birthing woman or a birth attendant open, a trained and compassionate birth story-listener can help to gently excavate and gather the shattered, scattered, precious bits. In this Birth Story Listening course, you will learn how to listen deeply with your whole body and mind, as well as learn what to listen for and what to ignore. Your compassion will expand as you begin to see how everything and everyone is a mirror of the mind. And with this new seeing, the words you speak become a healing balm for the storyteller. You will also learn how to build a medicine bridge that takes the storyteller toward healing—utilizing metaphor, Great Stories, and the clarity of research and logic. Thus, your presence and guidance creates a container for the storyteller to begin envisioning and embodying lasting transformation.

What you will need:

  • A journal of your choice that will be used only for this course.

  • Pens

  • A daily 30-minute uninterrupted appointment with yourself to read, listen, contemplate, and marinate in the rich material

  • A space to focus during the six consultation calls; arrange child care, and know that you deserve it!

  • Find three volunteer birth storytellers—who want an opportunity to change the way they feel about their experience. The volunteer cannot do this as a favor to you. Your volunteer should not be a relative, friend, or someone whose birth you attended

  • Submit one audio-recording of a birth story session with a storyteller around weeks 4 to 5, to receive constructive, in-depth feedback from your facilitators
